Showing Unconditional Love
“We met them in 2015 at Willow Huntley church. When they invited us to MEANS, a group of volunteers that help support missions in the Philippines and other countries in Asia, we went to observe. The MEANS office is housed in their basement. We came every workday from then on. And we became closer to them.
Their family showed us kindness, joy in volunteering, compassion, discipline in life and generosity. We would ask them for tips and advises on how to raise our children well, since they are ahead of us in parenting.
Then, one fateful day happened that shook their faith, family and almost everybody. Ate Lea almost died of sepsis! We have witnessed how Kuya Bong took care of Ate Lea, his family and other important matters. We saw what an unconditional love looks like. We experienced how a community unites to support them at the lowest point of their lives. We praise God that Ate Lea, the strongest woman we know, overcame this very difficult season. Surgeries and amputations, she overcame. And a year had passed just like that! Thank you for inviting us to this milestone of your marriage. We celebrate with you!” Jerelyn Del Carmen
A Great Role Model
What a great role model for us all. They showed what “in sickness and in health” truly means. The very first time I saw Lea in person after being hospitalized for months, she was radiant. As I cried while asking her, “how are you?”, she smiled with tears of gratitude and proudly said, “I’m well, I’m happy and I’m alive and thankful to be given a second life.”
Bong and Lea’s home is very welcoming, decorated with inspiring and motivational artworks. Lea shared with me that every month before the MEANS workday, she looks to organizing and cleaning the house. Lea’s house is very clean and organized and everything has its place. Lea loves company. Lea and Bong – thank you for your life, for boldly sharing your faith and for the families that you nurtured and continue to nurture with your love and happy home.” – Nelva Hembree Walz
