Our goal is to develop Christian leaders, enabling young men and women to bring change to their families, communities and the nation. Young people selected for ESI have distinguished themselves by academic excellence, active involvement in Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship Philippines (IVCF) programs, attended at least one IVCF leadership training, and exercising leadership in the IVCF chapter in their school. They have committed their lives to Christ and to serve Him. This initiative offers these college students the opportunity to refine their gifts through a university education and targeted Christian leadership training at IVCF.
MEANS gave scholarships to five (5) college students from Philippine Normal University in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental. Below are their stories:
RJ Batangas – God made clear to me what He wanted me to know about Him during my college days. After my graduation, I expected that I will be struggling about the money for my review classes and board exams, but God has been gracious through MEANS. Our regional director in IVCF West Visayas Regional Unit told me that I as one of their scholars. So, instead of worrying about how I would pay for my review and board exams, I focused on my preparation for the review classes. The scholarship encouraged me to study and work hard to pass the Exam. I was grateful because MEANS has invested in me. I took the Exam on September 27, 2015 in Cebu City and after two months, the result came. As expected, I passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers. I am now a professional teacher! Praise God! Thank you MEANS for the investment! I continued my work as a Graduate Team that school year in Sagay National High School. As a graduate team member, I help in reaching out to students in the campus to share to them about the love of the Lord Jesus Christ. I tried to be on the rank in the Department of Education for teaching assignment, but I wasn’t able to make it. Right now, I serve God through IVCF’s Grad Team ministry, and at the same time I am studying computer hardware servicing in the evening. Thank You MEANS!
Shandel Arroz Gomez – I was blessed about how God put me into a community that led me to the understanding of GRACE. I strongly believe that I have been a recipient of His grace even when I was still in the womb of my mother. I know that God gave me wisdom to be a good steward as a daughter, as a student in our school and as a leader in our organization(IVCF-ISCF). With these, I did not expect that this scholarship from MEANS would also give me the opportunity to have the assurance that I will finish my education degree. Now, as I step to another challenge of taking the Licensure for Teachers Examination, I would like to thank you for being a part of my journey. Thank you for your support, prayers, and to all the people God used to bless me. I pray that God will continue to bless you more, as you bless others with your faithfulness to Him. This is an amazing grace from God through you. Thank you so much.
Jolly Faith Lidres – Thank you so much MEANS for the full college scholarship… I thank God for He used you to be a blessing to us, especially to me. My world stopped when kuya Eumir announced about the scholarship. After a moment, tears flowed down from my eyes. I really thank God for your group. I praise God for the blessings that He showered upon me and one of those is being sponsored by MEANS. I did not expect to be sponsored in my Licensure Examination for Teachers Review. I am amazed how God worked in my life when I was still a student and even in preparing for my future career. Because of God’s love for me, I will continue to serve Him. I will always allow Him to use me as His channel of blessing to others, too!
Liezel Silva – Last June 11, 2016 we had the God Dependence Culmination at IVCF (Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship ) home in Bacolod City, Philippines. One of the questions that was asked was: “How did God provide and sustain you in the past?” This question struck me because the Lord has always been faithful in my life. I would not be able to graduate and get my diploma if I wasn’t blessed by the people who supported me at Philippine Normal University. Yes of course I am bringing the glory back to Him, thanking my family who have always been there to support and encourage me to hold on to the dream I have and yes, I praise the Lord for this time I am not dreaming it anymore because it came true with His help and the help of loved ones, IVCF family, and for my scholarship given by MEANS. God had blessed you enough to bless others too. Thank you for the trust and support Ate Carmena, Ate Lina and all MEANS volunteers. I want to extend my heart-felt gratitude to you all. May the Lord continue to use MEANS to be a vessel of blessings to others. Proverbs 11:24-25 “One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” To God be all the glory!
Yna Marie Arceli – Dear Father in heaven, I have been holding on to this promise of yours for so long, Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” I can no longer count the times you have proven yourself to be true. Thank you, my Dear Father for your faithfulness to me. Thank You for Your unfailing love. Thank You for being true to Your promises. Thank You for being my Healer and my Provider. Thank You for just being my Father. Praises and adorations belong to you for the life of these wonderful people who have been part of my life and journey with You. We may not know each other personally but they are never hesitant in extending their love and grace to us, to me. I can never think of other things to at least give the favor back. Nothing is best but Prayer. So, my Dear Lord, I humbly come before You this moment giving praises and worshipping You as I entrust to You the lives of these people of Yours, the MEANS and IVCF. Hallelujah for all You’ve done! Your daughter, Yna
